Portable hardness testing on a metal component

Hardness Testing

Portable hardness testing verifies material strength and weld condition in the shop or in the field.

Hardness testing measures a material’s resistance to indentation, which for metals correlates closely with tensile strength. That correlation makes hardness testing a quick, economical, and non-destructive way to verify material properties on installed equipment and bulk material deliveries using lightweight, portable instruments.

We use field hardness testing to confirm the effectiveness of post-weld heat treatment, evaluate weld and heat-affected-zone hardness against code limits, screen for hard spots in service-exposed equipment, and verify that delivered material matches its specification.

Precision NDT & Consulting, LLC performs hardness testing in the shop or in the field for refineries, petrochemical plants, marine, and oil & gas customers across the Gulf Coast. Our technicians hold certifications including ACCP Level II and ASNT Level III, and inspection reports are typically delivered the next business day.
